Use of e-WHT for Payment of Withholding Tax

On 30 August 2023, LHDNM issued a media release stating that an electronic withholding tax (e-WHT) was introduced on 1 January 2023 in order to facilitate the payment of withholding tax. The e-WHT is one of the e-taxation services that was rolled out in stages starting from 1 September 2023. The e-WHT will auto-generate receipt of payment upon HASiL receiving the data and payment.

The bill number will be used as a payment reference, for the payment of withholding tax through the e-WHT via the FPX method at the HASiL Payment Portal (ByrHASiL) or through the MyTax Portal at https://mytax.hasil.gov.my. The e-WHT system also enables the issuance of proof of payment receipts immediately upon receiving the transmission of data and payment.

With effect from 1 September 2023, taxpayers are no longer required to submit forms or documents for withholding tax payments via email to e-TT system. However, taxpayers are advised to maintain the receipts and all documents associated with withholding tax in an organised manner for future compliance review purposes.
