The following circulars were issued by the Department of Personal Data Protection (DPDP):

Circular No. 1/2022 was issued on 11 February 2022 relating to the requirement to register as a Data User under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 [Act 709]. This circular was to advise Data Users, as defined in the Personal Data Protection (Data Users) Order 2013 [P.U. (A) 336] and the Personal Data Protection (Data Users) (Amendment) Order 2016 [P.U. (A) 326], on the requirement to register as a Data User in accordance with section 14 of Act 709. An application for registration as a Data User can be made through the personal data protection system at the link http://daftar.pdp.gov.my. Any person who falls under the Class of Data Users and is found to be processing personal data without a Certificate of Registration is guilty of an offence under section 16 (4) of Act 709 and shall, on conviction, be liable to a fine not exceeding RM500,000.00 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three (3) years or both. Circular No. 3/2022 was issued on 23 February 2022 relating to the obligation of the Data Users to renew the certificate of registration pursuant to Act 709. This circular aims to ensure that the application for renewal of the certificate of registration is done in an orderly and effective manner in accordance with the requirements of Act 709. Data Users can apply for renewal of their registration certificate online at the link http://daftar.pdp.gov.my. Data Users who do not renew the certificate of registration after the expiry date of the certificate of registration will be subject to a compound or court action.
