The MAICSA and Kolej Tunku Abdul Rahman (KTAR) Corporate Governance Lecture Series
continued with its second lecture on 15 July 2008 at KTAR in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur.
Over 300 lecturers and students attended a lecture on “Corporate World & Corporate
Practice: Leadership, Ethics and Corporate Governance” by Professor Dr Syed Hamid
Aljunid FCIS. MAICSA CEO Philip Tan gave a humorous opening speech prior to the
lecture.
Dr Syed Hamid began his lecture by outlining alternative approaches for success
and the various aspects of mindfulness. He also stressed that for change management
to be effective, concepts needed to be reframed. According to Dr Syed Hamid, as
managers shaped the values of an organisation, they must possess certain leadership
qualities such as striving to conquer contexts, inspiring trust, setting eyes on
the horizon and integrating facts and concepts into meaning. Dr Syed Hamid further
elaborated on the challenges of leaders in the new market economy and how to implement
an integrity system within an organisation. He also highlighted that corporations
failed for various reasons including failure in leadership to change mindset, execution
was not integrated with plans and culture factor where respect was for position
and not for ideas.
After his lecture, students were given an opportunity to ask questions which were
rightfully addressed.
KTAR principal Yoong Lai Thye FCIS then presented a token of appreciation to Dr
Syed Hamid.
